“Nobel-Prize Laureate Eric Maskin Visit to FGV EPGE in 2016”

The Getulio Vargas Foundation promoted the PET 16, meeting of the Association for Public Economic Theory, from July 11 to 13, which celebrated the 70th anniversary of the economist Aloisio Araújo, a professor at the Brazilian School of Economics and Finance (EPGE). The meeting brought together world-renowned experts and economists such as Eric Maskin, winner of the 2007 Nobel Prize for Economics, Hugo Hopenhayn, who studied business and financial crises, and Pierre-André Chiappori, who researched new marriage arrangements and fecundity .

The event also had two round tables. The first, on 12th Corruption and Punishment, was attended by Ellen Gracie and Celso Peluso, in which questions were discussed about governance and award-winning delusion, among others. The second dealt with Privatization and Concessions, with the presence of Moreira Franco (executive secretary of the Federal Government's Investment Partnerships Program) and Maria Silvia Bastos (BNDES president).

During the meeting, there were also plenary sessions with academics from around the world and unpublished scientific papers were presented on subjects such as environmental economics, labor market and informality, auctions, tax reform and fiscal policy.

Aloisio Araújo is one of the leading scholars of the impacts of early childhood education on economic development, with research in partnership with James Heckman, was one of the authors of the Bankruptcy Law and, more recently, has been developing studies on the equation of state debt and the impacts The privatization of basic sanitation companies in health and the increase of coverage of services.
