On the evening of August 20th, Maria Sílvia Bastos Marques, PhD from FGV EPGE, was awarded the Chiquinha Gonzaga Medal by the Municipal Chamber of Rio de Janeiro. Maria Sílvia expressed her gratitude for the tribute: “Receiving this medal, which bears the name of a pioneering, artistic, engaged, free, and determined woman, is a great joy and an honor.” In her speech, Maria Sílvia reflected on her professional journey, marked by female leadership and pioneering achievements, as she was the first woman to serve as president of both CSN and BNDES. She currently leads the Department of Strategic Projects at the City Hall of Rio de Janeiro.
On the same occasion, the president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Ilan Goldfajn, was awarded the Title of Honorary Citizen of the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro.
Also honored at the event, receiving a Motion of Commendation from the City Council of Rio de Janeiro, were FGV President Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal, EPGE Director Rubens Penha Cysne, and EPGE professors Afonso Arinos, André Villela, Fernando de Holanda Barbosa Filho, José Gustavo Feres, Renato Fragelli Cardoso, and Sérgio Werlang.
Additional recipients of the Motion of Commendation included Joisa Dutra, Director of CERI/FGV; Gabriel Leal de Barros, Chief Economist at ARX Investimentos; Joana Monteiro, professor at EBAPE/FGV; and Vilma Pinto, Director of the Independent Fiscal Institution (IFI).
The event, held at the Cultural Center of Fundação Getulio Vargas, was an initiative of City Councilman Flávio Valle.
In addition, the Deputy Secretary of Economic Development and Innovation for the City of Rio, Marcel Balassiano, participated in presenting motions of recognition to economists working at City Hall, acknowledging the contributions of Andrea Senko, Henrique Dau, João Gabriel Garcez, and Maína Celidônio.
