On 19 and 20 October 2015, FGV held the seminar "Tax Adjustments and Budget Reform: International Experience and the Brazilian case." The event was attended by the president of FGV, Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal, Vice President of FGV Francisco Dornelles, the organization's specialist for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Ronald Downes, and the Professors of EBAPE Fernando Rezende and Armando Cunha. The seminar proposed to think and contextualize the Brazilian economic present moment and discuss issues on the usual financial procedures setting.
FGV/EPGE - Brazilian School of Economics and Finance, through the Professor Rubens Cysne, participated in the panel "Settings and Misfits - The economic dimension of fiscal adjustment programs" and "Tensions and Conflicts - The political dimension of fiscal adjustment programs". The event was also attended by Luiz Guilherme Schymura, director of the Brazilian Institute of Economics (IBRE), Yoshiaki Nakano, director of the School of Economics of São Paulo (EESP), Bianor Cavalcanti, International FGV director (DINT), the researcher of IBRE Jose Roberto Afonso, professor of EESP, Jorge Avelino, Marcos Mendes and Alexandre Rocha of the Federal Senate, consultant Mansueto Almeida, Helio Tollini, of the Chamber of Deputies, and the researcher 's of IEESP/UERJ Celina Souza.
The event aimed to discuss the Brazilian scene contextualized by the misfit of public finances that, in extreme situations, causes institutional and governance crises. The proposal was to encourage the exchange of experiences among national and international experts who have promoted budget reforms to correct imbalances and ensure fiscal responsibility.
