EPGE holds Commencement ceremony for bachelor’s degree in Economics and Marcelo Neri delivers the Commencement address

The ceremony took place at Maison de France Theatre, downtown Rio de Janeiro, and Professor Marcelo Neri, Acting Minister of Strategic Affairs Secretariat (SAE) of the Presidency and President of The Institute for Applied Economic Research (Ipea), delivered the Commencement address, in which he mentioned he had never been invited to the role of Commencement speaker before. In his speech, Professor Neri emphasized the School’s excellence in forming professionals with excellent technical and academic capacity.

Faculty attending the ceremony were the Dean of EPGE, Professor Rubens Penha Cysne, the Vice-Director of Education and patron of the class, Professor Carlos Eugênio da Costa, and the vice-directors of Institutional Regulation and of Education and Management of the Undergraduate Course, Professors Luis Braido and André Villela.

Besides the Commencement speaker, Professor Marcelo Neri, and the patron of the class, Professor Carlos Eugênio da Costa, the students also paid special tribute to  Professors André Villela, Edson Daniel Gonçalves, Maria Teresa Duclos, Moacyr Alvim Barbosa and Renato Fragelli, to the administrative staff and to their family and friends.

The ceremony was closed with a brief speech by Professor Rubens Penha Cysne, who congratulated the students on their achievement and reinforced the fact that education does not end with graduation. On the contrary, it is actually a continuing process: “One of the big challenges of these economists of the future is to obtain encouragement from the world and use the tools provided by the School to study and assess global issues.”
